The transient greatness of India

March 5, 2010 Leave a comment

I was thinking about this , shared this topic with some friends as well… and after that I thought may be its time to put it across in a blog.

First the precursor to the thought -

  • 20-30 years back people (our parents) read India is a great country
  • The complete Indian Scene was different both culture wise and demographically

I read it in school – India is a great country ..the culture had changed the demography had changed the development had changed

Kids currently in school are still reading the same line saying the same pledge…and the societal scene has again completely changed

10 years down the line there will be some one reading the same line and saying it again – that will be a whole new position where we will stand at that point of time

What I cannot understand is how come when almost everything is changing all this time in terms of our culture, our values, our way to move forward and even the government policies how come ” India is a great country.”

As far as I can see right now where I can see things moving – is towards the same way as the American economy is.

Earn lots of money and find ways to spend it and yes we are becoming a part of the great cycle of producers and consumers. Development is taking place but things are becoming expensive and expensive..

The way we look at our relations our beliefs and our tradition is also seeing a dramatic change.

So when even our basics have shifted and we are moving more towards an absolutely different style of doing things – this one notion has stood strong amongst all these changes. Which drives me to say that – Probably greatness is a concept and not reality (maybe more of a way to keep people happy) or rather greatness is transient. It has survived all these changes.

Our earlier systems were great and our new systems are great although there is hardly any connection between them – which I find hard to swallow. A great system is one which evolves.. One which adapts and one which survives….Not one which is completely replaced and still the notions surrounding it survives. But one thing is for sure something was wrong earlier or something is wrong now which we are not being able to see…. And this way we leave ourselves open to intrusion…

Hopefully, I wish the notion becomes a reality …..
